VCA/SCC Certification at ZW Automation
19 employees of ZW Automation – including 10 managers and 9 people in the technical team – have obtained VCA/SCC certification, essential for implementing a new project at Europe’s largest refinery, among other requirements.
Occupational safety is not a formality for ZW Automation, but a genuine value embedded in the daily execution of projects – particularly the most demanding ones carried out in an international industrial environment. That is why we consistently invest in developing our team’s competencies in the area of occupational health and safety, which has resulted in full VCA/SCC certification of our project and execution personnel.
“TThis training organized and standardized the principles that we already follow at execution work sites – now we also have them clearly confirmed by certification.” – says Jakub Szymański, one of the ZW Automation engineers covered by the training.
What is VCA/SCC certification and why is it crucial?
The abbreviation SCC stands for Sicherheits Certifikat Contraktoren. This is a German/Austrian designation, equivalent to the Dutch-Belgian VCA system (Veiligheid Gezondheid Milieu Checklijst Aannemers), denoting a safety, health and environment management system for subcontractors. In English, it is referred to as Safety Health Environment (SHE) – Checklist Contractors, and in Polish as Bezpieczeństwo Zdrowie Środowisko – Lista kontrolna Podwykonawcy.
VCA/SCC certification is an international standard commonly required for project execution in heavy industry, construction, chemical, petrochemical and energy sectors. It covers the principles of hazard identification, risk assessment, safe work organization, and the responsibility of both employees and management personnel. For ZW Automation, VCA/SCC certification means meeting the stringent requirements of foreign contractors, but above all, reducing the number of accidents on ongoing projects.
19 Certificates as a ticket to major projects
Our employees, including automation engineers, managers (VCA VOL/SCC 017 certificate), and technical team (VCA Basic/SCC 018 certificate), have received individual certificates confirming their competencies. These certificates authorize us to work on projects in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Scandinavia, and other EU countries.
The training and certification process were carried out in cooperation with VCA Polska Sp. z o.o., which organized the course and examinations. Part of the team was trained and examined in Belgium, directly during a project deployment. The remaining employees completed the training on-site at ZW Automation’s office in Wrocław. Regardless of the location, each participant completed the process by obtaining a VCA/SCC certificate.
“The ability to conduct training in parallel with project execution was a major advantage – without downtime and without compromising standards.” – emphasizes Jakub Szymański.
Training to obtain VCA/SCC Certification consists of several days of intensive sessions. However, thanks to the high qualifications of our team – holding technical/higher education degrees and appropriate work experience – learning came smoothly to ZW Automation employees, training sessions proceeded efficiently according to schedule, as it was merely consolidating safe work principles that were already familiar to us in most cases.
VCA/SCC Certification and new ZW Automation projects
The VCA/SCC certificates obtained are one of the key formal requirements enabling the commencement of a project that ZW Automation is just launching at the largest refinery in Europe. This is another example demonstrating that a systematic approach to safety and team competency development directly translates into the ability to execute the most demanding industrial contracts.
