Supercomputers in Industry: ZWA Visits ACK Cyfronet AGH
In the world of modern manufacturing, the winners are those who can harness data before their competitors do. At the recent meeting of the AHK Polska Digitalization and Industry 4.0 Committee, we came face to face with the fastest computing power in the country. The visit to ACK Cyfronet AGH in Kraków confirmed that supercomputers in industry are no longer a futuristic vision, but a foundation of security and efficiency that we can implement across sectors including Pharma, MedTech and Beauty.
Technology That Builds Sovereignty and Competitive Advantage
During the visit, we examined the infrastructure that accelerates research and simulations. Units such as Helios (Poland’s fastest, TOP10 Green500, 35 PetaFLOPS) and Athena (7.7 PFlops) are tools defining Poland’s technological sovereignty. Soon, a new computer with even greater computing power will appear at Cyfronet.
Cyfronet focuses on three key domains: Health, Space, and large language models (LLMs). For us, as automation experts, the health sector is the priority.
“As a long-standing partner to the pharmaceutical, medical and beauty industries, we see enormous potential in leveraging supercomputers to build advanced quality control systems for manufacturing processes” – says Jarosław Szafran, COO of ZW Automation.
The opportunity for commercial utilization of this computing power in areas such as MedTech, Automotive, or materials strength analysis is a breakthrough. By having AGH experts take over the technological operations, companies can focus entirely on the substantive aspects of their own research, directly supporting the competitiveness of European SMEs and startups. Cyfronet also addresses its services to external entities from the public sector.
Gaia AI Factory and Supercomputers in the Industry of the Future
A key discussion point was the Gaia AI Factory project, which by 2029 will create an innovation ecosystem in Poland that extends beyond national borders. Particular attention was paid to cybersecurity – Cyfronet offers SMEs free training, advisory services and audits in compliance with the ISO 27001 standard and the implementation of the Information Security Management System (ISMS).
What is critical for our partners:
- Intellectual property in computational processes always remains with the company.
- Data is processed in a secure and sovereign manner.
- Advanced simulations reduce product deployment time from months to just a few days.
We thank the organizers from AHK Polska, the experts from ACK Cyfronet AGH, and all Committee members for the substantive sessions and inspiring discussions on the future of Polish industry.
