Polish-Taiwanese Digital Technology Ecosystem featuring ZWA

ZW Automation participated in the “Gateway to Europe” conference in Wrocław—an international event dedicated to building the Polish-Taiwanese digital technology ecosystem, fostering business cooperation, and exploring Lower Silesia’s role in the emerging Europe–Taiwan semiconductor triangle. Our company was represented by CEO Maciej Włodarczyk and COO Jarosław Szafran.

Participation in the conference, organized by the Ministry of Development and Technology in cooperation with the Taiwan Ministry of Economic Affairs (MOEA), gathered representatives from administration, business, science, and media. The meeting served as a platform for discussing tangible opportunities for cooperation, especially concerning how the Polish-Taiwanese digital ecosystem can shape the future of Lower Silesia and the entire country. The event was energized by a large delegation of Taiwanese entrepreneurs led by Vice Minister of Economic Affairs, Cynthia Kiang.

It was she who highlighted the strategic potential of our region:

“With its geographical location and growing economy, Poland is a naturally essential base for Taiwanese companies in the European market,” noted Cynthia Kiang, Taiwan’s Vice Minister of Economic Affairs responsible for international economic cooperation.

A key theme was the role of Wrocław in the European arrangement “Wrocław–Dresden–Prague” and within the “Polish ICT Triangle” (Wrocław–Katowice–Łódź), which the Taiwanese business community perceives as a natural hub for its presence in Europe. This opens the way for investments, exchange of experience, and co-creation of the technological backbone for the industry of the future.

Among the participants, the need for synergy among companies, universities, Special Economic Zones (SEZ), and public administration resonated—ranging from infrastructure development and competence building to creating standards for projects of the highest technological advancement. As representatives of ARP (Industrial Development Agency), PFR (Polish Development Fund), PAIH (Polish Investment and Trade Agency), and the Wałbrzych Special Economic Zone stressed, it is precisely such discussions and the consistent development of relations that allow small projects to start, which later turn into large investments, just as it previously happened in the region with Korean capital.

During the networking sessions and panels, our representatives had the opportunity to talk with both business partners and the academic community.

“I came here and count primarily on networking—on face-to-face conversations about what they do, what we do, how we can combine experiences, and benchmark them against the high standards of Taiwanese and Korean technology,” emphasized Jarosław Szafran.

CEO Maciej Włodarczyk pointed to the role of initiatives like this in building real business bridges:

“We came here to see how the Ministry of Development and Technology intends to guide entrepreneurs toward cooperation with partners from Taiwan. This is a very good initiative—we want to observe the best and talk to companies that have been setting trends in digital technologies for years.”

The conference was also an opportunity to showcase the potential of young engineers—students from the Wrocław University of Science and Technology presented an electric racing motorcycle that achieved high rankings in international competitions in Spain. The presence of universities and local governments showed that the development of the Polish-Taiwanese digital technology ecosystem requires the engagement of the entire community—from science and business to local authorities.

Participants also highlighted the significance of foreign investments and the growing attractiveness of Lower Silesia, especially in the context of successes like the new Mercedes-Benz plants, which confirm the region’s strength as a center for production and innovation.

For ZW Automation, participation in “Gateway to Europe” is an important step in strengthening our position within the industry of the future ecosystem and in building relationships with partners who can boost the development of our technologies and open the way to international projects.

We believe that European-Taiwanese cooperation—combining the competencies, experience, and resources of both sides—will serve as an impetus for creating even more advanced solutions that will shape the industry of tomorrow.
