OT environment cybersecurity: ZW Automation at Nomios Security Cup 2026

On May 7–8, 2026, representatives of ZW Automation – Chief Operating Officer Jarosław Szafran and Head of the Process Department Krzysztof Walczak – participated in the second edition of the prestigious Nomios Security Cup conference at the Mazurski Raj Hotel. This event combined intensive, practical technical sessions dedicated to industrial infrastructure protection with sporting competition during a sailing regatta. Participation in the panels allowed our team to directly verify the latest defense strategies that we implement in automation projects to protect production plants from costly downtime.

Why is OT environment cybersecurity the foundation of production continuity today?

Modern integration of industrial systems with cloud services opens up new opportunities for optimization, but also brings serious challenges. During the technical panels, our experts analyzed threat scenarios based on current incidents. A key highlight of the agenda included live attack demonstrations, which illustrated in real time how vital full endpoint activity visibility and advanced monitoring are for modern installations.

For ZW Automation, attending this event was primarily an opportunity for direct, on-site consultations with security system architects. The ability to discuss complex, automation-specific engineering challenges allows us to instantly resolve ongoing design doubts and eliminate the risk of errors right at the conceptual stage.

I look at security primarily through the prism of production continuity and critical infrastructure protection. Effective OT environment cybersecurity is not a single tool, but a well-thought-out, multi-layered strategy combining technology, continuous monitoring, and threat awareness,” emphasizes Krzysztof Walczak, Head of the Process Department at ZW Automation.

Modern technologies and OT environment cybersecurity – tangible engineering benefits

Bringing together leading technology providers in one place gave us a unique opportunity to effectively compare market solutions and analyze the ROI for the systems we recommend to our partners. Thanks to exchanging experiences with engineers from other sectors (both private and public), we gained a comprehensive insight into best practices for handling incidents in environments with the highest regulatory requirements.

The acquired knowledge allows us to optimize the costs of future deployments and precisely select technologies with the highest return on investment for the industrial sector. In our daily engineering practice, we pay special attention to three areas extensively discussed during the conference:

EDR/XDR class solutions in practice

Real-time threat monitoring and immediate response at the endpoint level constitute the first line of defense against a digital storm.

The Zero Trust concept and DNS Security

Effective defense of an industrial network must begin at the DNS layer. In the era of cloud connectivity, the principle of limited trust is becoming a standard.

Platform approach – Security Fabric

Integrating distributed security systems into one coherent, automated ecosystem provides full control and visibility over the entire IT/OT structure.

Strategy and a well-coordinated team, meaning OT environment cybersecurity on the water

The substantive part of the meeting was complemented by dynamic competition on the water during the Nomios Cup regatta. Competing under the guidance of professional skippers showed that the rules governing a yacht perfectly reflect those of security engineering.

In the face of a sudden threat – just like during a sudden change of conditions on the lake – seconds determine success. Precision of action, trust in the team, and the ability to react instantly are values that we at ZW Automation translate directly into designing fail-safe systems for our clients. Active participation in such specialized events is important to us. We prioritize information security and continuously invest in the highest technical competencies of our team. Maintaining the highest standards of protection is a course we will not deviate from.
