Signing of the contract for IT and OT systems cybersecurity in Zambrów

On July 21, 2026, tender procedure No. P/02/2026 was officially finalized, resulting in ZW Automation being selected as the main contractor for the project titled “Increasing the cyber resilience and operational continuity of Zambrowskie Ciepłownictwo i Wodociągi Sp. z o.o. through the implementation of modern solutions, infrastructure modernization, and personnel competence development”. The agreement was signed by Maciej Włodarczyk, president of the management board of ZWA, and Andrzej Suwalski, president of the Zambrów company.

The initiative is financed by the Recovery and Resilience Facility (NextGenerationEU) under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.

Why is IT and OT systems cybersecurity crucial for the water and wastewater sector?

Modern critical infrastructure facilities, such as water treatment plants and wastewater treatment plants, increasingly rely on industrial automation and digital data exchange. Interconnecting operational technology environments with corporate IT networks creates new challenges in data protection and operational continuity.

“Our priority as a company is to deliver solutions that are not only practical and stable in daily operations, but also meet the highest security standards. Implementing advanced protective mechanisms within industrial automation systems effectively shields facilities against unauthorized access and ensures uninterrupted service delivery for residents” – emphasizes Maciej Włodarczyk, CEO of ZW Automation.

What measures will IT and OT systems cybersecurity in Zambrów encompass?

The scope of work entrusted to ZW Automation covers multi-area technical and implementation support. Our team of specialists will perform an upgrade of the ICT infrastructure and introduce dedicated security controls for both the operational and information technology layers.

The main pillars of the project being implemented are:

  • Modernization of ICT infrastructure and auditing of existing assets.

  • Deployment of network traffic monitoring and cyber threat detection systems.

  • Implementation of secure, encrypted remote access mechanisms for maintenance and operational purposes.

  • Building reliable backup systems guaranteeing rapid recovery of operational continuity in emergency situations.

  • Conducting specialized training sessions aimed at enhancing the competencies of the staff at the Zambrów utility company.

“Infrastructure security is a process composed of advanced technology and the awareness of the people who use it. Therefore, in this project, we combine modern technical tools with practical knowledge and training for both engineering and operational personnel” – adds Maciej Włodarczyk.

Supply stability and a high level of municipal infrastructure protection

ZW Automation’s actions directly secure the continuity of processes related to water production, treatment, and distribution. The deployment of modern detection tools enables the instantaneous discovery of breach attempts within the digital perimeter, threat mitigation, and the swift restoration of full operational capability.

The concurrent upskilling of personnel and the rollout of incident response procedures build a permanently resilient enterprise. This investment represents a crucial stage in the modernization of Zambrowskie Ciepłownictwo i Wodociągi Sp. z o.o. – it not only eliminates the risk of utility supply disruptions for local residents, but also aligns the company with current legal requirements applicable to critical infrastructure entities.
