Summer employees’ beach volleyball tournament at ZWA
Although the summer season in the industrial automation industry is a time of intensive project execution and modernizations, at ZW Automation we found space for active relaxation. Behind us are two rounds of summer integration, the highlight of which was an employees’ beach volleyball tournament combined with a barbecue by the Oder River. In July and August, we met at Wrocław’s Prosto z Mostu Beach Bar to compete in the spirit of fair play, determine this year’s beach champions, and spend time in an informal atmosphere.
Summer industry challenges and employees’ beach volleyball tournament
For many, summer is associated with holidays, but in our industry, it is a slightly hotter period of the year. When production plants plan shutdown maintenance breaks, the ZW Automation team operates at full capacity, executing key projects and modernizations. All the more reason for us to find a moment to recharge, catch our breath, and integrate in the fresh air.
The choice fell on Prosto z Mostu Beach Bar, refreshingly located right by the Warszawski Bridge and the banks of the Oder River. That is where we organized two editions of sports and recreational meetups, centered around the employees’ beach volleyball tournament.
July and August beach competition
The tournament took place in two rounds – July 16 and August 20. Although nature decided to test our determination by serving heavy rainfall the day before each event, the weather ultimately held up on match days. The wet and heavy sand made things challenging, but our players did not give up.
Team rosters were drafted randomly. Matches were played to one winning set up to 21 points — in the first round using a round-robin system, and in the second round with a rematch phase. The smooth execution of the event was supervised by the tournament coordinator, Paulina Szczepańska.
Interesting team names, exciting matches, and barbecue: employees’ beach volleyball tournament
The true highlight of both rounds was the teams’ creativity — not only in plays at the net, but also in choosing their names. In the July edition, 5 three-person teams entered the competition, while the August round brought together 3 squads.
Here is the final standings of both editions:
1st Round (July): 1st Place: Drużyna A (unbeatable), 2nd Place: Synergiczni, 3rd Place: Sigmy, 4th Place: Bez litości, 5th Place: KFC
2nd Round (August): 1st Place: Synergiczni (a impressive rise to the top!), 2nd Place: AAA, 3rd Place: Szybcy, ale bez formy
Winners of places 1 to 3 in both rounds received commemorative prizes; however, at ZW Automation we appreciate every contribution to having fun. Souvenirs were also handed out to all attending fans. During match breaks and after the sports part, we gathered under the tent for a barbecue to talk freely and integrate outside of daily professional duties. Congratulations to all tournament participants! Thank you for the time spent together, which proves once again that ZW Automation is a well-coordinated team not only in engineering projects, but also on the sports field.
